Joseph Vijay [1] [3]  known professionally as  Vijay , is an Indian  film actor  and  playback singer  who works primarily in  Tamil cinema . [4] Vijay is referred to by the media as  Thalapathy  (commander). [5] [6] [7] Vijay was born to  S.A. Chandrasekhar  and  Shoba  in  Chennai ,  Tamil Nadu . Vijay initially appeared as a child actor in special appearances under his father's direction, starting with  Vetri  (1984) to  Ithu Engal Neethi  (1988). He made his debut under his father's direction as a teen-age lead actor in  Naalaya Theerpu  (1992), but his first successful film as lead actor was  Poove Unakkaga  (1996), which was directed by Vikraman.
